The majority of people develop acne at some stage in adolescents, often beginning with the development of blackheads on their nose. Children as young as eight regularly visit dermatology clinics looking for acne solutions. The first important point to remember is that the black “dot” at the center of that blackhead isn’t dirt, but a combination of melanin and cells that turn black when surfaced. Unfortunately, acne carries a stigma that often lead to teenagers feeling dirty or embarrassed about the development of acne.

It’s estimated that over ninety percent of teenagers aged between 12 and 17 will be affected by acne and similar skin conditions at one stage or another in life. It may be an occasional pimple, or it could be a full-scale breakout. It may not be limited to the face; acne may also develop on the neck, chest and back.

Adolescence can be a testing time – perhaps the understatement of the year. Bodies develop, hormones are high, and teenagers find themselves facing new social experiences. Acne issues simply add to the mix and can lead to extreme frustration, embarrassment and discontent.

Teenagers are the main age group feeling the affects of acne, due to natural body developments and hormonal changes. Both growth and sex hormones – which, as their names imply, are responsible for physical, mental and sexual development – swing into action during the onset of puberty. For adolescent males, the hormone responsible is testosterone, which is produced in the testes. In female teens, the primary hormones are estrogen and progesterone, which are produced in the ovaries. Androgens, the sex hormones also cause sebaceous glands that secrete more oil, affecting the condition of the skin.

Many will take the advice of various home cure resources, some offering valuable insights, some less valuable such as the use of toothpaste, dishwashing liquid, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol and even Preparation H to reduce pimples. These solutions aren’t developed as a cure for acne, and can have adverse affects on the skin. While you may think hydrogen peroxide and alcohol, as disinfecting agents, would reduce bacteria and cleanse the skin, the tend to dry the skin to an unhealthy extent and can actually make acne worse. There are many products on the market – both prescription and over-the-counter – that are specifically designed for acne treatment that come highly recommended.

As all teenagers affected by acne know, it can be difficult, but very important to talk to your parents about the psychological effects acne has. A common myth is that teenage acne means ‘bad skin,’ it is actually a simple development stage. In many clinical studies, acne sufferers share feelings of depression and some have even felt suicidal as a result of acne. This is an extremely alarming issue, considering acne can be treated simply by educating yourself about acne and effective treatments. Parents need to be aware if a teenager is becoming anxious, depressed, ashamed, humiliated and embarrassed. Such anxiety affects behavior and attitude that reflect in poor school performance, discipline issues and often effecting social skills. Teens may develop body image problems, and you may start to withdraw from friends, family and generally become more introverted. This can be seen in changes as small as a teen that suddenly stops going to parties, school events and social events.

Acne can often affect family life and create problems within the family unit, as frustrations grow children tend to act out against parents and siblings. It can be extremely difficult when other family members make jokes about the situation and humiliate with subtle remarks.

Needless to say, acne can turn relationships into a nightmare. There’s nothing worse than preparing for a big date and noticing a pimple in the middle of your face. You begin to believe that your date will see nothing other than your acne- you, the Human Zit – and you may even be tempted to cancel.

As you get older, you may become self conscious visiting, or taking part in interviews and meetings. To worsen the situation, some studies have demonstrated that employers may actually discriminate against job applicants affected by acne. It’s undeniably unethical and often illegal, but it just demonstrates how much importance today’s society places on acne-free skin, encouraging the stigma that surrounds acne.

And being stressed out about acne will only cause it to get worse. There is a direct correlation between stress levels and acne flare-ups. In a March 2001 study conducted by the American Academy of Dermatology, 10% of teens stated that acne is one of the worst things in their lives. Virtually every teen is obsessed with his or her complexion and disturbed by acne breakouts. Sufferers are convinced that everyone around them is staring at their faces – and we all know that kids can be cruel, inflicting damage with names like “Pizza Face.”

Parents can also be a unintentional negative influence, telling adolescents that they mustn’t be practicing proper hygiene, further fueling the frustration. This creates tension and alienation. The best solution for teenage acne can be an informed parent. A responsible parent that takes his or her teenager to a dermatologist and arrange adequate acne treatment. Parents must remember that acne is a normal part of adolescence – not an abnormality. Perhaps they are reacting to their own teenage experiences and painful memories. Some parents may even be embarrassed by their teenagers’ complexions. A skilled, experienced dermatologist can help both teenager and parent deal with the real issues associated with acne.

I suffered from moderately bad acne from age 18 to age 25. I almost always had at least one pimple but usually not more than three or four. I tried everything as far as topical products go. I tried the creams, gels, lotions, pads, and everything else on the market. Every brand from Oxy to Neutrogena. I had a very similar amount of success with each of these products. They didn’t really seem to do anything except make my skin more irritated. No matter how much I used it or what kind I used. But out of desperation I kept trying new brands and new types of these topical treatments thinking one of them might finally do it.

Accutane – Prescription Acne Medication

One day out of complete frustration I decided to search online for some sort of alternative acne treatment. I found a lot of information about Accutane which is the prescription acne drug that I knew had a reputation for actually working but I also knew that it was generally only given to people with severe cases of acne and also very importantly to me it required a prescription. Something about going to the doctor and asking for this made me feel embarrassed and I knew my case wasn’t bad enough to warrant it. I also read that Accutane has a lot of negative side effects.

One thing that I did find very interesting about Accutane is that it’s not a topical medication like all of the acne products you buy at the store. It’s an internal medication. And through more study I found that it’s actually a variant of Vitamin A.

I found this very interesting because I had always heard that what you eat has nothing to do with acne. The stuff about eating greasy food and chocolate causing acne breakouts? That that’s all some sort of myth I heard even though it had always seemed to carry some truth in my experience.

I thought why was it that the only thing that apparently actually works on acne is an internal medication?

Discovery of Vilantae’s Vitamin B5 Acne Clearing Product

This line of thinking and research lead me to Vitamin B5 in the form of the Vilantae acne fighting product. I had never previously heard of using Vitamin B5 for treating acne and that actually makes a lot of sense because Vitamin B5 for treating acne first became known about in 1997 when Dr. Lit-Hung Leung published a study stating that high doses of Vitamin B5 resolved the problem of acne and reduced pore size.

Although I was somewhat skeptical because of all my previous failures at clearing my acne it seemed like it was worth a try. I ordered the Vilantae and started taking it as directed. It’s quite a lot of capsules that you have to take in order to build up the amount of Vitamin B5 needed to clear acne. At first I found that to be a bit daunting but I decided it was worth it to give it a real try.

Vilantae Side Effects: Negative & Positive

One of the big selling points of Vilantae and Vitamin B5 in general for fighting acne is that there are little in the way of side effects. I did notice some slight stomach irritation when I first started taking it but that decreased pretty quickly once I got used to it.

The first thing I noticed about it had nothing to do with acne actually but it was the fact that I started to have a lot more energy and I seemed to be thinking crisper and more clearly. This was a great side effect of the use of Vilantae and I thought actually might warrant use just for this reason even if I didn’t have acne.

The Results

It wasn’t long before I started to notice that my acne was decreasing. Within a couple of weeks I had no acne at all. This was the first time in about 7 years that I had been completely acne free for more than a day or two.

Afterwards

It is now four years later and although I actually stopped taking Vilantae some time ago I still do not have acne and it’s never come back. This leads me to believe that some sort of permanent change is made internally that stops our bodies from being acne prone. I only feel this from my personal experience though, so I do not know if there are any studies on this subject.

Recommendation

To say that I recommend this product is a huge understatement. If you have oily skin and you’ve tried all of the topical products with similar results as I did then you really have to try Vilantae. Why aren’t the effects of Vitamin B5 more well known?

My theory of why this product hasn’t gained more recognition is that selling worthless topical acne products is a billion dollar industry that would shrivel away to nothing if people knew how to actually cure their acne. Vitamin B5 is a bad product for the big corporations to sell for two reasons. The first one being that it’s a very cheap, very plentiful product and thus can’t be priced all that high. The second being that since it actually works and actually cures acne rather than doing nothing in the long run it’s going to take away a lot of business.

That may be a bit too “conspiracy theory” for some of you folks, but really, this is the way capitalism works. You have to realize that these companies do not have your interests at heart. They just want to take your money.

The struggle we have of trying to rid ourselves of pimples and acne can be a very frustrating struggle. Especially since they eventually turn into scars that generally become very unsightly over time. This tends to play havoc with our self-esteem.

In addition, our young people, and I’m talking about our sons and daughters, face continual hardship when their acne is really bad.

Depending on how well a child has been nurtured and prepared by their parents, even a mild case of acne can bring a surprising reaction from the child.

Acne is the most diagnosed skin disorder in the United States. Let no one kid you, we are dealing with a monster here. It is a serious problem and we should treat it as such.

Our primary approach to curing ourselves of acne must come from the area of our diet. Did you know that prior to 1950, Canadian Eskimos, up to that point in their history, never had acne?

Is that startling? Well how about this? When so called ‘modern food’ was introduced into their diet, along came acne. I didn’t say that all efforts should be focused toward the diet. I said that our primary approach should come from the area of our diet.

Acne And Pimples

Blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, infected sacs and cysts. We’ve been told countless times about the sebaceous or oil glands and how they get clogged. Then bacteria multiply, and along comes inflammation.

Did you know that some people, a very few though, have acne all their lives? How bad is that? In spite of all that, there is hope! Acne comes because of the things you do, and the things you don’t do. Let me explain that.

When you eat too much meat, eggs, denatured flour, and white sugar, something inside of your body has to go awry.

On the other hand, when you do not eat the more wholesome foods like fresh vegetables, whole grains and fruits, the body doesn’t get enough of the foods that it does need.

How often do you get a bath? So you take good care of your outer body. How often do you bathe your inner body? What am I talking about? No one can wash and bathe the inner body? I beg to differ.

When was the last time that you ate an apple? An apple washes and scrubs the inner body just like Mr. Clean does on the commercial. The old clich? that an apple a day keeps the doctor away may be time-worn, but it’s true.

The action of an apple working on the inside of the body is truly amazing. Eat plenty of fruits. They wash, bathe and cleanse the inside of the body. The more natural the fruit is, the better it is for you.

Only eat store bought canned fruits when you absolutely cannot get fresh fruit. Always wash your fruit before eating, and soak dried fruit, prunes and apricots.
