Due to budgetary constraints many people look for a home remedy for acne. This may be possible but it’s rather hit or miss on a good day and somewhat quixotic on a bad day.

There may be some help in finding a home remedy for acne by examining the ingredients found in over-the-counter acne treatments. For instance, green tea is one ingredient that has been medically proven to have antioxidant properties. It is found in topical acne treatments but does not have FDA approval for this use.

So what can be deduced about the efficacy of this ingredient when used as a home remedy for acne? Nothing really. Some ingredients may work but haven’t yet been given the nod by the FDA. Perhaps brewing some strong green tea, cooling it and applying it to the skin may be beneficial. Maybe not though because the jury is not in. One thing is certain. It probably costs less than the over-the-counter treatment that contains it.

Consider the soaps that contain oatmeal. This is another natural ingredient that has been medically proven to be beneficial to the diet but in another context. Eating oatmeal is decidedly heart smart. It reduces cholesterol. But does that mean it would be good as a home remedy for acne?

Again this is an ingredient that has only anecdotal evidence as a home remedy for acne. It is cheap. So why not try it? Cook and cool the oatmeal. Apply the starch to the skin and wait for it to dry. Rinse with cool water. Pat dry and dab with witch hazel as an astringent. This facial costs pennies. It may or may not be an affective treatment for blackheads. But it is cheaper than the over-the-counter product which also may or may not be effective.

Another easily obtainable ingredient found in over-the-counter medications is salicylic acid. However, this one has FDA approval. It is found in black willow tree bark. This is readily available and would cost nothing to steep into a steam bath for the cleaning of acne pores.

There can be a problem when using a home remedy for acne. For one thing some of them are not safe. It is possible to harm the skin. So in that case, the attempt at saving money will be in vain.

If one looks out for the treatments available for acne today, one would be astounded by the available range to choose from. However, there is a great range of products that could help you, but at the same time, they could be quite heavy on your pocket as well. Besides, some of these products might come with side effects. The way out, therefore, is alternative home remedies, which are inexpensive and very safe.

This might surprise some people but oil is one of the best natural cures for acne. The kinds of oil that are often used to treat acne are rose hip seed oil, lavender, sandalwood and primrose oil.

Ice, the most inexpensive treatment, is also there to cure the irritation of acne. It also helps in compressing the pimples, which then becomes less noticeable. Some people have also found that if ground nutmeg is mixed with cold milk and then applied on the acne, it works very well.

Toothpaste, which can be found in almost every home, is also considered a good home cure for acne problem. One can apply it on the affected area and then leave it overnight, and in the morning you might get up without the pimple.

For acne treatment you may also use milk of magnesia with the help of a q-tip or cotton ball to the affected area. After letting it dry for a while you can wash it off with cool water. In order to get the better and faster results, it is recommended to apply it at least twice or thrice a day. A drop of visine on the pimples also helps, but not always.

To avoid red spots on your skin, avoid popping or squeezing the pimples, as it helps in spreading the bacteria, which makes the breakout even more prominent and look bad on your skin. So get rid of these pimples through proper treatment.

No doubt the home cure recipes are very effective and come with no side effects. However, they would ask for your patience because some of them may take a little while to produce noticeable improvement. Just trust them, they would surely cure your acne.
